First can you tell us the meaning of your name? cos i have bitten my tongue a few times before getting the right pronunciation – Lol!
Charlene is the feminine name of Charles which means Manly/ Freeman and to be strong. So Charlene basically means to be strong and womanly. …
So, tell me about what you do and why?
Well, first of, I’m quite an adventurous person and I do quite a lot of things. Ranging from arts, to literary writing, sports, Exploring places and science/education. I do most of these things because I feel there’s a higher calling to my course on earth, so I try to explore all these parts of me as often as I can.
About your poetic side, what is the plan ?
I’m working on art exhibition that’d include poetry, pictures and paintings
How has it been for you, schooling and working in the area of your study? it sounds so foreign, like some yanke thing going on.
Yeah, I know right.
It’s quite amazing you know. I get to incorporate what I’m taught in school into my Job, of course with more modifications and self developments and it’s really made me a better person. Taught me about the real life, how to handle people, manage my time, save money and a lot more.
What is the challenges in your space as a working student?
Well the only challenge is that I don’t get to really socialize or go for some extra school activities or parties and stuff but I’m okay with it. At least one part’s gotta bleed a little. I work extra hard with school work so it doesn’t affect my academics. So I maintain a good score in school.
Does it mean you pay your school bills or you working to be financially responsible for yourself as a human-being? – what is your motive for working?
My motive for working is to kick start my career while I’m still young and can try out stuff I wouldn’t have the courage to do in a few years from now. My folks still pay my school fees but I have more than I need at some point. Apart from my basic needs (which my folks still give me money for) I get to do some other side projects with my own money, so working teaches me the value of money and how other people to get it. And I no longer waste money on rubbish stuff like I used to.
What is your thoughts about the Nigeria system whereby students are not encouraged to work part time and earn some money, especially to help lighten the burden and meet personal financial needs?
We’re still a long way from that spot because the educational system is far behind in terms of supplying students with what they need to work or survive on the outside world, so when they step out, its a whole different ball game.
Even with what I get taught in school I still have to get better materials from my work supervisor who also studied my course; Human Kinesiology, in the UK and I also make use of the internet; YouTube, Pinterest and others to keep up with the trends in my career path.
And i think because the system is bad, a lot of young girls sleep around to satisfy their financial needs just because the country doesn’t plan with them in mind – what are your thoughts on this?
Hmmm, this is absolutely true, you see this every day in every system.
Honestly I understand that people need to survive but they are better ways that they can go about it but then again, it’s an individual race so I’m indifferent about what people choose to do with themselves as long as it doesn’t affect them negatively.
Tell me about your course and why you think its the future?
Yes! It definitely is the future. With the level of sickness and awareness on healthy lifestyle, people are becoming smarter and trying to eat healthy, live healthy and exercise well enough to keep the body system balanced.
Nobody wants to die from avoidable circumstances.
And judging from the diverse kinds of people who attend my stretch fitness classes, you can tell that Exercises, body movement, healthy living and Human Kinesiology really is the future.
What are your schedule time for those interested in your session at the fitness studio in lekki? and what classes do you take in?
Actually I’ve got two classes a week.
Tuesdays, 7:30pm at 88, Raymond Njoku, Ikoyi
Saturdays 6pm at Essenza wellness centre, Admiralty way, Lekki.
They are stretch classes that entail Yoga, Pilates and Meditation
What would you say describes your style sense?
Well when I’m not wearing gym outfits… My style sense is usually a mix of Simple, chic and classy. I don’t really follow trends but tend to be as hot as I can. Lol!
What beauty routine do you indulge in?
I take a lot of fruits, just started taking Multivitamins for better skin glow. And I use well-made organic products like: Shea butter, sugar scrub, baobad oil, Black soap and soaps made from natural fruits. I already have a nice skin but these help in maintenance and enhancing the glow.
As a kinetic worker, what are your personal work out hacks ?
my personal work out hacks include waking early to do some of these (before the busy day takes over)
1) Squats (sometimes with dumb bells)
2) Jumping squats
4) Dead lifts
5) Gym ball abdominal curl
6) Planks; full planks, side planks, half planks
